The Benefits of Elevated Pet Bowls

The Benefits of Elevated Pet Bowls

Why Height Matters at Mealtime

We switched to elevated bowls after noticing Tum straining his neck and Tin eating too fast from floor-level bowls. The difference was immediate.

Benefits for Dogs

  • Better posture: Reduces strain on neck, back, and joints โ€” especially important for senior dogs and large breeds
  • Improved digestion: Eating at a natural angle helps food travel more smoothly to the stomach
  • Reduced bloat risk: Studies are mixed, but many vets recommend elevated bowls for deep-chested breeds
  • Cleaner eating area: Less food spilling and sliding across the floor

Benefits for Cats

  • Reduced vomiting: Tilted elevated bowls prevent cats from eating too fast and reduce regurgitation
  • Whisker fatigue relief: Shallow, wide elevated bowls don't press against sensitive whiskers
  • Joint comfort: Senior cats with arthritis don't have to crouch to eat

Choosing the Right Height

The bowl should be at your pet's chest/lower neck level. For dogs, measure from the floor to the top of their shoulders, then subtract 6 inches. For cats, 4-6 inches of elevation is usually perfect.

Our Ceramic Elevated Cat Bowl and Stainless Steel Double Dog Bowl are designed for comfortable, healthy mealtimes.
